Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.

Who we are

Pilgrim Congregational Church is an inclusive, caring, and open-minded Protestant church, a member of the progressive United Church of Christ denomination. We recognize the value of all people in God’s diverse creation. We are an open and affirming church, and welcome all persons regardless of worldly condition, social status, ability, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and acknowledge him as head of the church. We work to do justice in this world, we love mercy and walk humbly with God. We allow each person to follow their conscience in relating the Christian faith to the modern world. We have no bishops or outside authorities, and the congregation operates as a democracy, voting on all issues of importance.

In today’s atmosphere of strident divisiveness, Pilgrim engages the teachings of Jesus in a thoughtful way, taking the Bible seriously but not literally. With acute awareness of the disparities in our society, Pilgrims continue to work for a just world for all.

The Church in action.

About the UCC

Our denomination

The UCC stands out as a diverse community of Christian worshippers who believe faith and justice go hand in hand. We believe the Church should be a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. Together, we work to co-create a more just, peaceful and sustainable world for all of God’s creation.

The Church of firsts

Throughout its history, the UCC has been a faith leader in promoting justice and equality for all. The UCC was the first historically white denomination to ordain an African-American. The UCC was also the first church to ordain a woman, the first to ordain an openly gay man, and the first Christian church to affirm the right of same-gender couples to marry.

Locally, Pilgrim Congregational Church, UCC took a leading role in the civil rights movement in the 1960s and continues to do so. Today, we are proud to have a female minister and a strong LGBTQ+ community amongst our members and staff.
